hui o hawaii

during a recent visit to borders, i spotted a new magazine with the intriguing title of hui o hawaii. it turns out to be the latest entrant into the travel glossie market catering to the luxe island vacationer created by the publishers of nalu underground. the premiere issue spotlighted a mix of island destinations, style/culture profiles (1.1 features designer anne namba and musician makana), plus an emphasis on mo'olelo shared by kama'aina.

a few caveats: i found it a bit odd that an editor's note was nowhere to be found which necessitated a click over to their website to learn more about the magazine's mission. and the font is not reader friendly. small glitches that, hopefully, will be fixed by the time the second issue hits the newsstand.

if you want to take a peek, just know that hui o hawaii is a quarterly publication and subscriptions are via post for now.

punk-n-pie moving sale

liana of mixed plate is making the move to the mainland and has just kicked off a moving sale at punk-n-pie. everything in the charming online keiki boutique has been marked down which means it's time to do a little early holiday shopping and scoop up wee finds with an indie edge for the little ones who have earned a spot on your nice list.

p.s. the darling sakura sundress (along with a matching kimono style top) that was featured earlier this year is still in stock.

queens candy shop remix

if streetwear is your thing, it's time to check out the recent arrivals (dimepiece, old baby doll, and the uk's nails did) at queens candy shop. yep, you read that right . . . our friends at the candy shop, honolulu's little indie emporium, recently remixed their name to better reflect their corner shop spot in kaka'ako.

the queens peeps have also recently introduced a kokua program which invites customer to donate 1% of their purchase to a local charity. the rotating list of non-profit picks includes honolulu habitat for humanity and the fashion programs at hcc and uh.

check out the official shop blog for the latest scoops.
