made in hawaii 2007 - keiki edition

oops, procrastination got the best of me yesterday so my apologies for being a day late with a few keiki finds from this weekend's made in hawaii festival.

i first learned about sweet island baby earlier in the summer via the baby awearness blog. christina, sib's owner, is a stay-at-home mom from kailua who has been making mei tai baby carriers since 2004. fanciful patterns from amy butler (one of my favorite textile designers) brighten up carriers and baby accessories like burping cloths and nursing covers. 

no worries if you can't make it to the show since you can shop online or drop by one of sweet island baby's island stockists.

okay, so stamping isn't just for kids any more. crafty keiki and grownups will no doubt be in stamping nirvana when they arrive at rubber stamp plantation's booth. in addition to island themed stamps, the company designs temporary polynesian tataus (birthday party swag, anyone?) and vintage hawaiian stickers to adorn secret notes to your bff.

little dragon girls

a few years ago, the three friends who started little dragon girls decided the time was right for a collection to empower asian-american girls. their inspired idea was to flip the western stereotype of the dragon lady on its head and redefine it for a younger generation.

take the iconic dragon, ditch the tired imagery of the exotic seductress with an opium pipe, add a shot of style with a dash of sass, mix with a message to inspire modern day girls, shake and enjoy!

the company, which is split between hawaii and l.a., started out selling baby tees emblazoned with the ldg manifesto at local craft fairs, and the response was so good that they eventually expanded their line to cheeky stationary, a keiki collection for the littlest dragon girls, and have even more goodness planned for the future.

this week's etsy find is the euphemistically named baby booty line snotnose. one look at the adorable onesies and bibs emblazoned with playful felt appliqués and my first thought was how it would be the most talked about shower gift for irreverent babes and the parents who love them.

hali, the kaneohe girl and inspired mind behind the recently launched line, finds time to sew while her recently arrived little one (and muse) enjoys naptime. both new and, to keep it green, gently worn onesies as well as assorted baby accessories are the backdrops for hali's impish designs sure to delight the cookie monster set. 

sizes range from newborn to toddler and hali is always happy to whip up a custom order if a favorite onesie needs a little monster love. in addition to the etsy shop, snotnose can be found at babyaWEARness in manoa.

oh so kawaii

if you adore all things kawaii, you will fall in love with berrysprite's etsy shop which is overflowing with handmade cuteness. one look at the little crocheted menagerie, mystery fruits, and wee pouches and you would think that holly, berrysprite's crafty owner, had been creating all this goodness for years.

not so. she is, surprisingly, a crochet newbie and an inspiring example of what is possible if you have a passion for your craft. two of the whimsical items that originally caught my eye (the fish bag, below, which would be perfect for boy's/girl's day & the little japanese girl which reminds me of four words that gave me the heebie-jeebies during small kid time: pitter patter pitter patter) were snapped up in the wee hours, however holly is always happy to recreate pieces that have already found a home and also accepts custom orders.

it appears that cupcake, the keiki boutique at ward center, also has its very own adorable children's line called jolie + jane. the label is billed as a little girl clothier and the charming designs are just right for parents who prefer their little ones to dress like children instead of mini-celebutantes.

j+j's spring/summer 2007 collection is composed of restrained ruffles, darling trims, pretty patterns, and even handy pockets to stash candy or other contraband best hidden from grown-ups. a few designs are currently on sale at cupcake's website and you will be able to see even more at the spring trunk show scheduled at the shop on apr 28th.
