hawaiian time

100 fathom

despite all the rushing around whenever i visit home, it always seems like time passes by more slowly in the islands. if you don't have the luxury of letting hawaiian time rule your schedule, click over to bathys hawaii to check out a recent find which has been hitting the wish list of watch aficionados everywhere who require a tough but stylish time piece to accompany them on their adventures.

bathys' watches are designed on kauai and engineered in switzerland to keep on ticking whether you are on an ocean dive or hiking up the mountaintops of mauna kea. the back even has a a nice map of the hawaiian islands that is sure to come in handy for ocean warriors.

if you have been searching for a really serious watch, bathys just released an automatic style which is available for pre-order for the holidays at a special ohana rate for today only. the product line is made in small batches and has been known to sell out quickly so your best bet to score one is to order online.

paddle away

more than a few readers will be happy to learn that 'oiwi ocean gear's online shop is now open. even if you're not paddling in the warm waters of the pacific you can get geared up with just a few clicks.

the retro style lanikai line isn't anywhere to be found but the pattern on the 'oiwi style (shown above) is a pretty replacement. you'll also find a nice variety of t-shirt designs to help you express your love of paddling to the rest of the world.

surf's up

spotted at athleta today: the dawn patrol rash guard has hit the clearance section and is now 40% off. at that price, wouldn't you agree it's a good time to embrace your girly side and add a little island style when you hit the surf?

sponger's paradise

no trip home is complete without a stop at turbo surf. yep, i married a sponger and since all his bodyboarding gear was stolen on our last trip to the islands it's safe to say that we will be stocking up on everything he needs to hit the surf.

the guys at turbo are super nice and you just may bump into mike stewart when you're there. for those of you who may be just as clueless as i was once upon a time, mike stewart (as my other half described in a hushed & reverent voice), is the michael jordan of bodyboarding. he is also a nice guy and actually spent time helping my fella pick out his fins, etc. so i guess he has a future in retail if this bodyboarding thing doesn't work out.

anyhoo, turbo's new and improved online store was recently launched so now you surf the internet and get geared up without leaving your home.

{update | jan 2010: alas, it appears that turbo has closed its shop on kapahulu and relocated to australia}

havaa surf gear

episode board shorts

pop quiz, hotshot. your board shorts have a puka (or two). what do you do?

  • keep wearing them since nothing x-rated is being revealed . . . yet
  • donate them to goodwill (or your cousin)
  • hustle up a bamboo stick and some twine to macgyver a kite (why waste fabric?)
  • toss 'em in the trash

if you are a bit more modest and selected one of the last three choices then the folks at havaa may have the perfect replacement to update your beach style this summer. rock the waves in the episode and its old school retro look which is just the thing for those yearning to relive the 70's.

havaa's goods are made in hawaii and they have a line for the ladies too!
