hopefully, my attempt to whittle down my vanity fair stash while in flight will be accomplished, but if you need something good to read on your next trip then grab a copy of growing up local. this anthology is a nice introduction to many talented local writers whom you may not be familiar with, and the stories they tell are sure to tap into more than a few repressed memories from your childhood.
my favorite: "the gift" by gary pak which is a spooky yet hilarious hawaiian style coming of age story reminiscent of stand by me.

no trip home is complete without a stop at turbo surf. yep, i married a sponger and since all his bodyboarding gear was stolen on our last trip to the islands it's safe to say that we will be stocking up on everything he needs to hit the surf.
the guys at turbo are super nice and you just may bump into mike stewart when you're there. for those of you who may be just as clueless as i was once upon a time, mike stewart (as my other half described in a hushed & reverent voice), is the michael jordan of bodyboarding. he is also a nice guy and actually spent time helping my fella pick out his fins, etc. so i guess he has a future in retail if this bodyboarding thing doesn't work out.
anyhoo, turbo's new and improved online store was recently launched so now you surf the internet and get geared up without leaving your home.

there's always something fresh happening over at janet jewelry, which must make her an inspired and busy bee with all the new goodies that are being created in her nyc workshop. one of the newer designs are these tablet necklaces that can be customized with your favorite someone's name or a word that just makes you happy.
and for the girl who can never have too many earrings, be sure to click over before thu, aug 31st when janet's earring clearance comes to an end. there are lots to choose from (like these pretty mother of pearl drops) but quantities are limited so don't procrastinate.

flying into hawaii on aloha friday will be a nice treat for this homesick islander. those of you who have been stopping by h|h for the last few months already know how much i love the bargains to be found at sierra trading post. now that a few more have joined us, i guess it's time to let them in on the secret too.
