party saver: event essentials

bubble club sofa * wood stump cake stand * sake cups

one of the benefits of hawaii being a destination wedding hot spot are the decorating possibilities courtesy of the rental services catering to the most swoon-worthy i do's. when the future mister and i peeked into a traditional party rental supply on island way back when, the pickings were quite depressing - think standard issue china, glitzy 80's centerpieces, and a surprising lack of anything stylish to compliment our modern un-wedding. and, this was a few years in to the 21st century.

when tara from pacific bride guide mentioned the lovely goods available at event essentials, my daydreams of one day hosting a fabulous soirée became ever more delightful as i imagined mixing in whimsical bubble club sofas (compliments of tara), dreamy french beverage dispensers, and the oh-so-toasty fire pit.

if your budget allows, it's a briliant way to add a little more loveliness to the occasional celebration when more seating is required, you simply cannot justify ownership of an oversized confectionary jar in your small space, or if, like me, your borrowing circle does not share your crush for moroccan lanterns and tree stump cake stands.

more peeks of pretty party possibilities after the jump!

event essentials owner christina farrow (who also creates pacific aisles' lovely weddings) was kind enough to share a little cheat sheet to save you some extra clicks over the hectic holiday season:

  • inventory is limited so it's best to reserve asap. especially if your event date falls on a saturday.
  • no minimum quantities required so mix and match to your heart's content.
  • posted rental fees are for 24 hours but extended rentals may be accommodated upon request.
  • delivery is available on oahu for a fee (starting at $75; required for furniture rentals), however you can arrange to pick up smaller items at ee's aiea storage space.

a sampling of rental price tags include $2 for a ceramic sake cup, $20 for the large french beverage dispenser, and $150 for the fun bubble club sofa.

is hosting a festive fête on your holiday must do list this year?

new peeks: roberta oaks holiday 2010

beth

i must apologize for my lack of posts lately but purging my nest and digital life have become my top distractions in hopes of starting with an emptier canvas in the new year. hopefully, now that it is written for all to see my grand plans will be a success!

you may have noticed a brief mention of roberta oaks' first ever holiday collection in last week's scoop, and i gathered up a glimpse for those who have yet to click over to the official website to preview. the glittery group of metallic knit minis promise to sparkle just a little brighter beneath christmas twinkle lights. not to mention the pretty new frocks look quite cute paired with tights.

peek the cap sleeved claire (my favorite) and the holiday edition of the always lovely quaint after the jump!

quaint

construction details like a soft lining of bamboo and organic cotton will be very welcome news if you have ever suffered through an uncomfortably scratchy encounter with an unlined metallic garment.

there are five silhouettes offered in a shimmering palette of copper, gold and silver joined by cheery red and green, the always sophisticated black, and a bright pop of cobalt. (note: colors vary depending on style.)

you can peek the holiday collection (average price tag: $160) in the online shop or visit roberta's studio for a little help to find the perfect holiday cocktail dress.

p.s. roberta will be joining project runway finalist andy south on the judging panel for the bella project's rule the runway fundraiser on nov 16th.

shop toast: tricks & treats

jax treat bags

does anyone else feel like 2010 is slipping away faster than you can say boo? with halloween lurking around the corner, how about we take a peek into the shop toast workshop to see the newest treats designed to add a little cuteness to next weekend's creepy costumed celebration.

if you are feeling particularly crunched on time, skip the line at longs and scoop up a few jax treat bags, wee pumpkin colored muslin delights pre-filled with an assortment of sweets for just $1.50 a pop. the halloween edition boo!zu boys have also returned (currently on clearance for $2) and have brought along a few friends to help scare away the rain on a daily basis.

toast's woodland warriors have proven to be popular and have welcomed a few new additions to its 'ohana from birch wood postcards ($4) to cotton totes ($15) with five different greetings and designs to choose from.

and, lovebirds and holiday hostesses have a pretty new semi-custom favor option with the arrival of the diy tying the knot fabric wrap bags. the cotton hanky sets are a simple way to doll up those tokens of appreciation and can be ordered in rainbow of colors to coordinate with your bash's decor.

you can find all the new goods both in-store and stocked in the online shop. and, if you are hoping to wish away the drizzle with the latest boo!zu boys weather charm ($6; available in 7 colors), remember to mention h|h and the shop toast 'ohana will knock $2 off the going price!

heather brown: high tide peeks

one of my regrets from my last trip home was flying off the island before heather brown's new art show debuted at chinatown boardroom. lucky for us, gallery owner (& new mama!) jackie was kind enough to gather up glimpses of many of the original artworks currently hanging on the gallery walls. longtime readers may guess that i am just crushing over heather's collection of little birdies in all their pint-sized glory . . . aren't they even cuter repeated row after row after row?

the show is filled with an array of small and big waves with nary a surfer in sight. other pieces include paintings on reclaimed wood salvaged from a north shore bungalow, and artwork introducing a more realistic style of wave.

no. 472 * 441 * 473
no. 429 * 438 * 440

if you are off-island and spotted a new favorite for your personal gallery, you are welcome to email or phone the gallery for purchasing details. (fyi: the 6x6 mini paintings start at $400.) paintings are numbered but jackie also shared that you can name your painting and heather will sign the back to make the title official!

and, if you are looking for more gently priced options, screenprinted totes ($30) and prints on sugar cane paper ($40) round out the show offerings.

  • show dates: now to sat, sep 25th
  • where: 1160 nu'uanu avenue, chinatown
  • gallery hours: tue to sat, 11a to 4p

{mahalo jackie! and congratulations on the addition of the very adorable little miss parker to your 'ohana!}

and the winner is . . .

maire of kuli'ou'ou who will be scooping up a charming pop in a box gift set compliments of shop toast! my apologies for the delay in posting the lucky winner . . . my email service went down on friday and the weekend was a whirlwind split between my cousin's happy wedding day and jetting back to the mainland.

anyhoo, you still have a few days to scoop up the pop in a box during its $20 introductory offer (ending tomorrow - tue, aug 31st). btw, if you love to bake up yummy delights for gifting, be sure to take a peek at toast's new diy press/repeat baker's box complete with baker's twine, boxes, perishable stickers, plus a custom stamp to to put the finishing touch on your sweet offerings. $65 buys you enough to do up 24 treat boxes with additional box orders available.

the baker's edition can be ordered online and shipped to your mailbox or picked up at toast's kaimuki storefront.

congratulations maire!
